Following 350 years of tradition, the three days of September 7th through 9th are the festivals of the Shinmei and Yakushido shrines. Young men pull floats through the town-and whenever two floats meet, in order to determine which will proceed first, the bearers throw all their strength into driving the floats together in a massive collision. In contrast, participants can also admire graceful dancing accompanied by traditional Japanese music and marvel at the extravagantly decorated dolls. These are festivals of beauty and might combined.
